OK, I’ll admit it. It’s January 29th and I’m officially sick of winter. Aside from a record breaking cold spell that broke my furnace over Christmas, it hasn’t been brutal cold here in Raleigh. But it’s been gray, overcast, rainy and generally blah quite a bit.
Most days have lows in the 30s and highs in the upper 40s to low 50s. Every morning, I bundle up like an arctic explorer to walk Wiggles. At night when it is time for bed, I dive under the covers pulling the dogs up to nestle under the covers with me as my little hot water bottles. I am pretty much always cold.
This year, after 4 winters in Raleigh, I finally dialed in my winter clothing at least. I have a super warm puffy parka, two balaclavas, good skintight base layers, and insulated mittens that do a good job of protecting me from the worst of the frigid temps and biting winds.
But…ugh.
I’d rather be in Florida right now.
Already, there are hints of spring. A few afternoons have been sunny with highs nearing 60. We haven’t had any snowstorms or ice storms yet. With any luck, we will make it through the rest of winter unscathed.
And, I’m not going anywhere. As much as I loved Florida weather in the winter, I have found my home in Raleigh. I just need to make it through the next few weeks until the glorious spring season is upon us.
I can’t wait.
