As much as I disdain and distrust big Pharma, big government and big corporations, I would like to smack the people who refuse to get a Covid-19 Vaccine.
Of course, I don’t believe all of the statistics reported on Covid, the vaccines and the data trends. We know that the best efforts to gather exact data is suspect at best.
Nor do I trust the motivations of big Pharma company and their spokespeople who are incentivized to make profits for themselves.
Yet, I also know there is a worldwide Covid-19 pandemic. That’s obvious.
It has caused major societal disruptions – from social distancing, to work stoppages, to lockdowns and kabuki theater mask requirements. It’s caused (or contributed to) a large number of deaths, illness and suffering.
Nothing has worked long term to fight this diseases except vaccines.
Period.
No seasonal changes shut it down. No lockdowns shut it down permanently. Masking didn’t. Social isolation didn’t.
Temporarily, some of these made an impact. But in time, all have failed.
As I see it we have two choices:
- Do nothing and ride it out. Let’s face it. Historically societies have tried many ways to fight pandemics. In the end, most just rode them out. Let the chips fall where they may. Some will die, some will suffer and some will move forward.
- Take the vaccines which have a reported high effectiveness in preventing the disease and minimizing its effects if it is caught. We’ll still ride it out, but with less devastating social and health impacts.
- Pretend it doesn’t exist and refuse to take the vaccine for any number of reasons: mistrust of government/pharma, belief it is a hoax, political leanings, ignorance of statistics, stubbornness, whatever…
Here’s the deal. If we don’t get enough people to take vaccinations, all of the quasi effective measures we’ve been dealing with: masking, lockdowns, and societal disruptions will return because our government leaders won’t know what else to do. Already mask mandates have returned in places after a short hiatus due to surging infections in the unvaccinated.
If you do get vaccinated and it turns out there are unforeseen health complications down the road, you’ll be one of billions of people suffering from the same thing. With that many people affected, you can be certain somebody will be working on a for-profit remedy.
Lastly, hospitalizations from Covid are rising fast right now, In my county, we’ve gone from 450 to 1500 hospitalizations in the the last 3 weeks.
If it keeps going this way, our hospitals will do what they did before – cancel surgeries, convert wards to Covid only and furlough staff.
And I have a f***ing hernia that requires surgery. I really don’t want to sit out another months long lockdown waiting until the hospital reopens again.
So, even if you don’t buy into the vaccine to save yourself, your family or your friends, do it for me.
I could use a break.
So can everyone else in the US. Including you.
Let’s all get vaccinated and hope we can get back to normal living once again soon.
